Man nennt \\(p+q=r\\) den \\textit{Rang}, \\(p-q=S\\) die \\textit{Signatur} von \\(F\\). Diese letztere ist von \\textit{Gundelfinger} und \\textit{Fleck} bestimmt worden. Der Verf. zeigt, da\u00df beide Resultate im Grunde dieselben sind, und vereinfacht den Ausdruck von \\textit{Fleck} wesentlich. Setzt man \\(F_{\\lambda}=\\sum_{\\alpha ,\\beta =1}^{\\lambda}a_{\\alpha\\beta}x_{\\alpha}x_{\\beta}\\), und ist \\(A_{\\lambda}\\) die Determinante von \\(F_{\\lambda},S_{\\lambda}\\) ihre Signatur, so ist:  \\[  S=S_{\\alpha}+(S_{\\beta}-S_{\\alpha})+\\dotsm +(S_{\\lambda}- S_{\\chi})+\\dotsm +(S_n-S_{\\nu}).  \\]  Dabei seien \\(\\alpha ,\\beta, \\gamma ,\\dots ,\\lambda ,\\chi,\\dots ,\\nu\\), die Indizes \\textit{aller} von 0 verschiedenen Determinanten \\(A_{\\alpha},A_{\\beta},\\dots ,A_{\\nu}\\). Setzt man \\(s_{\\lambda}=+1,-1,0\\), je nachdem \\(A_{\\lambda}\\) positiv, negativ oder gleich 0 ist, so wird:  \\[  S_{\\lambda}-S_{\\chi}=\\sum s_{\\alpha -1}s_{\\alpha},  \\]  wo \\(\\alpha\\) diejenigen der Zahlen \\(\\chi +1,\\dots ,\\lambda\\) durchl\u00e4uft, f\u00fcr die  \\[  r_{\\alpha}=r_{\\alpha -1}+1.  \\]  Dabei ist \\(r_{\\alpha}\\) der Rang von \\(F_{\\alpha}\\). Diese letztere Relation vereinfacht der Verf.;  \\[  S_{\\lambda}-S_{\\chi}=(-1)^{\\frac {\\lambda -\\chi - 1}2}.s_{\\chi}s_{\\lambda}\\quad (\\lambda -\\chi\\text{ ungerade}),  \\]   \\[  S_{\\lambda}-S_{\\chi}=\\pm s_{\\gamma}(s_{\\lambda}-(-1)^{\\frac {\\lambda -\\chi}2}s_{\\chi})\\quad (\\lambda -\\chi\\text{ gerade}),  \\]  wo \\(\\gamma\\) ein zwischen \\(\\lambda\\) und \\(\\chi\\) liegender Index ist (vgl. F. d.
