Nachdem ein Auszug aus den ersten 4 B\u00fcchern Euclid's von der Versammlung allgemein gebilligt war, wurde im Jahre 1873 ein Subcomit\u00e9 ernannt, um denjenigen Theil der B\u00fccher V und VI umzuarbeiten, der sich auf die Proportionen bezieht. Ueber die beste Methode, die Proportionen zu lehren, konnte sich das Subcomit\u00e9 nicht einigen; und es ver\u00f6ffentlichten nun 3 Mitglieder des Subcomit\u00e9's, die Herren Merrifield, Hayward und Moulton, sowie die Secret\u00e4re, Herr Levett und Herr Mac Carthy, ein jeder verschiedene Bearbeitungen der Lehre von den Proportionen, nach geometrischen Methoden behandelt.
