The results in this paper concern finding a cardinal number \(\kappa\), as small as possible, such that every uniformly or proximally continuous mapping from a given subspace \(X\) of a product \(\prod_{I}X_i\) into some space \(A\) factorizes via a subspace of \(\prod_{J}X_i\) with \(|J|\leq \kappa\). Also in this paper cardinals \(\kappa\) are found such that the above factorization holds for all products \(\prod_I X_i\) from an epireflective subclass \(\mathcal{C}\) of the category of Hausdorff uniform spaces, their closed subspaces \(X\) and spaces \(A\) generating \(\mathcal{C}\). This situation is close to factorizing maps on limits of inverse systems via limits of smaller inverse subsystems. In some cases the Vidossich theorem has been substantially improved [\textit{G. Vidossich}, Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 76, 370--371 (1970; Zbl 0179.51302)]. A new cardinal function on uniform spaces is defined and investigated, which can help to find a convenient factorization. Factorization of maps from products can be used for the investigation of productivity of some properties or the hereditary properties for subspaces of products. Another application of the results of this paper is to Hausdorff topological groups, since every continuous homomorphism between topological groups is uniformly continuous with respect to the four possible main uniformities on topological groups. Such applications will be given in an upcoming paper.
