In 1988 (cf. [Appl. Math. Lett. 1, No. 4, 403--405 (1988; Zbl 0706.20047)]), the author encoded the Einstein velocity addition law and got an algebraic structure \\(({\\mathbb R}_s^n,\\oplus)\\) with \\({\\mathbb R}_s^n=\\{v\\in{\\mathbb R}^n\\,\\,:\\,\\,{\\|}v{\\|}<s\\}\\) where \\(s\\) is an arbitrarily fixed positive constant. ``In physical applications \\(n=3\\), whereas in geometry \\(n\\geq\\,1\\) is any positive integer. The quotations above are taken from the elegantly written Chapter 1 (Introduction) of the book under review, this introduction surveys at the one hand the historical development of the gyroalgebra and at the other hand the six parts of the book; thus Chapter 1 offers a quick and convenient entry into the gyroalgebra. Einstein's groupoid \\(({\\mathbb R}_s^n,\\oplus)\\) can be endowed with the Einstein scalar multiplication \\(\\otimes\\), thus giving rise to the Einstein gyrovector space. From the author's summary in [in: Proceedings of the 7th international conference on geometry, integrability and quantization, Sts. Constantine and Elena, Bulgaria, 2005. Sofia: Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. 249--264 (2006; Zbl 1210.83003)] we quote: ``In the `gyrolanguage' [\\dots] one attaches the prefix `gyro' to a classical term to mean the analogous term in hyperbolic geometry. The prefix stems from Thomas gyration, which is the mathematical abstraction of the relativistic effect known as Thomas precession.'' And again from the Introduction of the book: ``[\\dots] the gyrovector space approach to the relativistic hyperbolic geometry is fully analogous to the standard vector space approach to Euclidean geometry.'' The present book shows that the gyroalgebra is an extremely valuable tool for the study of \\(n\\)-dimensional hyperbolic spaces. The author published numerous articles and essays in mathematical and as well physical journals and presented gyroalgebra and its applications already in six preceding books [Beyond the Einstein addition law and its gyroscopic Thomas precession. The theory of gyrogroups and gyrovector spaces. Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic Publishers (2001; Zbl 0972.83002); Analytic hyperbolic geometry. Mathematical foundations and applications. Important new concepts of the present book are the hyperbolic \\(n\\)-simplices being extensions of the hyperbolic triangles and the hyperbolic tetrahedrons.NEWLINENEWLINEAnyone who is concerned with hyperbolic geometry should use this wonderful and comprehensive book as helpful compendium. Readers of the book should have a basic knowledge of linear algebra and Euclidean geometry, but no ``prior acquaintance with either hyperbolic geometry, special relativity, or nonassociative algebra'' is required. Because of many complicated algebraic manipulations computer algebra is indispensable.NEWLINENEWLINEThe content of the book is doubly structured: firstly into six parts and secondly into thirteen chapters; each chapter ends with a list of problems.NEWLINENEWLINEChapter 1 (Introduction) consists of the sections Gyrovector spaces in service of analytic hyperbolic geometry, When two counterintuitive theories meet, The fascinating rich mathematical material of Einstein's velocity addition law, Matrices assigned to simplices and gyrosimplices, and Parts of the book.
