\textit{Q. Kong} et al. [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 263, No. 2, 748--762 (2001; Zbl 1001.34019)] discovered a class of Sturm-Liouville problems (SLPs) whose spectrum is a finite set of eigenvalues and earlier in [Result. Math. 54, No. 1-2, 103--116 (2009; Zbl 1185.34032)], the authors and \textit{H. Volkmer} obtained matrix representations of these problems. In this paper the eigenvalues of matrix problems involving Jacobi and cyclic Jacobi matrices as functions of certain entries are studies. The limits of the eigenvalues as these entries approach infinity. The approach is to use the recently discovered equivalence between these problems and a class of SLPs and then to apply the Sturm-Liouville theory.
