The main goal of the paper is to prove a compactness result for families of functions in \(SBV^{p}(\Omega_\varepsilon)\), \(p>1\), which are bounded in some sense. Here \(\Omega_\varepsilon=\Omega \cap \varepsilon P\) is a periodically perforated domain, \(\Omega \) being a smooth open subset of \(\mathbb R^2\), and \(P\) is a \(Q\)-periodic, connected and open subset of \( \mathbb{R}^{2}\). Such a compactness result is useful when describing homogenization results in periodically perforated domains. The authors recall how the minimizer \(u_\varepsilon\) of a Neumann problem posed in \( \Omega_\varepsilon\) satisfies \[ \sup_\varepsilon \left(\int_{\Omega_\varepsilon}\left| \nabla u_\varepsilon \right|^p\,dx+ {\mathcal H}^1(S_{u_\varepsilon}\cap \Omega_\varepsilon)\right)<+\infty, \] where \(S_{u_\varepsilon}\) is the set of discontinuities of \( u_\varepsilon\) and \({\mathcal H}^1\) is the Hausdorff measure. The authors then generalize this situation considering the subset \(\Omega\) of \(\mathbb R^n\), then \(\Omega_\varepsilon=\Omega \cap \varepsilon P\), and defining the set \(SBV^p(\Omega)=\{u\in SBV(\Omega):\nabla u\in L^p(\Omega)\) and \({\mathcal H}^{n-1}(S_{u})<+\infty\}\). The main result of the paper proves that a sequence \((u_k)\) in \(SBV^p(\Omega _{\varepsilon_k})\), which satisfies \[ \sup_{k} \left(\int_{\Omega_{\varepsilon_k}}(\left| u_k\right|^p+\left| \nabla u_k\right|^p)\,dx+{\mathcal H}^{n-1}(S_{u_k}\cap \Omega _{\varepsilon_k})\right)<+\infty, \] is such that a subsequence of the sequence \((\widetilde{u}_k)\), where \( \widetilde{u}_k\) is an extension of \(u_k\), converges in the strong topology of \(L^1(\Omega)\) to some \(u\in GSBV^p\cap L^p(\Omega)\). The extension \(\widetilde{u}_k\) involves some mean value of \(u_k\). The main idea of the proof is a Poincaré-Wirtinger inequality for \(SBV\)-functions. The authors then prove some compactness result in the case of Sobolev spaces (Neumann problem in a perforated domain) using this notion of extension. The last parts of the paper apply these compactness results to the description of some asymptotic behaviours.
