Most of the results as well as the proofs are similar to those obtained by \\textit{M. Rubinstein} and \\textit{P. Sarnak} [Exp. Math. 3, No. 3, 173--197 (1994; Zbl 0823.11050)]. Some of the proofs which are different are in fact easier. The main assumption is a function field analogue of the grand simplicity hypothesis (GSH) asserting that the inverse zeros having absolute value \\({\\sqrt{q}}\\) of the Dirichlet \\(L\\)-series of a polynomial ring over the finite field with \\(q\\) elements are linearly independent over the rationals. Under this hypothesis, the author studies how primes, which here are monic irreducible polynomials in this polynomial ring over the finite field, are distributed in a given set of residue classes modulo a fixed monic polynomial. Under the GSH, it is shown that primes are biased towards quadratic nonresidues, which mirrors the number field case. However, unlike the number field case, it is shown that GSH can be proved to hold in some cases but can be violated in other cases.
