For a field \\(k\\), a smooth connected unipotent \\(k\\)-group \\(U\\) is called \\textit{wound} if there are no nontrivial maps \\(\\mathbb{G}_a \\to U\\) from the additive group to \\(U\\). Likewise, a unipotent \\(k\\)-group is called semiwound if we only require that there are no nontrivial maps from \\(\\mathbb{G}_a\\), that is, we drop the smooth and connected requirements. In particular, the paper studies wound groups by introducing the new notion of \\textit{permawound} groups (which we warn are not a subclass of wound groups). In general, the quotient of a semiwound group need not be semiwound, however the definition of permawound groups means that they and their quotients act as ``good kernels'' with respect to semiwoundness. In particular if \\(U\\) is permawound, \\(U\\twoheadrightarrow \\overline{U}\\) a quotient of \\(U\\) and \\(\\overline{U}\\lhd E\\) is a normal subgroup inside a semiwound group \\(E\\) of finite type, then \\(E/\\overline{U}\\) remains semiwound. It is shown that there are no non-trivial permawound groups if \\(k\\) has infinite degree of imperfection, so we now assume that \\(k\\) has finite degree of imperfection.\\N\\NThe paper establishes two key features of permawound groups, called \\textit{ubiquity} and \\textit{rigidity}. Ubiquity says that for any commutative smooth semiwound \\(p\\)-torsion unipotent group, one can embed it in a wound commutative \\(p\\)-torsion and permawound group such that the quotient is a vector group. Rigidity applies when \\(k\\) is separably closed and states that any wound and permawound unipotent group admits a filtration whose successive quotients are one of two particular groups, \\(\\mathscr{V}\\) or \\(\\Gamma = \\mathrm{R}_{k^{1/p}/k}(\\alpha_p)\\), defined in the paper. The strength of ubiquity and rigidity is that, given a property which is inherited by subgroups and extensions, it suffices to prove it holds for \\(\\mathscr{V}\\) and \\(\\Gamma\\) to conclude that it holds for all wound unipotent \\(k\\)-groups. A nice exposition of how this reduction works is given at the beginning of Section 10.\\N\\NPermawound groups are applied to the theory of unipotent groups in two ways. First, showing that over an infinite field \\(k\\) which is a finitely generated extension of \\(\\mathbb{F}_p\\), any non-split smooth unipotent group \\(U\\) has infinite \\(H^1(k,U)\\). Secondly, a partial answer is provided to a question of Totaro about which unipotent groups can occur as quotients of pseudo-reductive groups. It is shown that when the degree of imperfection is \\(1\\), all \\(p\\)-torsion commutative wound unipotent groups can appear as the (maximal unipotent) quotient of a commutative pseudo-reductive group.\\N\\NThe paper makes consistent use of technical lemmas about and computations with \\(p\\)-polynomials in its arguments. Often times concrete \\(p\\)-polynomials describing group schemes are given by choosing a \\(p\\)-basis of \\(k\\) in order write things explicitly. Sections 2 through 6 make heavy use of these techniques to study subgroups of vector groups, ultimately classifying exactly when such subgroups are permawound based on conditions on the defining \\(p\\)-polynomials. This classification is then used to show ubiquity. The group \\(\\mathscr{V}\\) is defined using \\(p\\)-polynomials and a similar presentation is also given for the group \\(\\Gamma\\), properties of which are studied in Sections 7 and 8, with rigidity being shown in Section 9. The final sections contain the applications mentioned above.","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$C52F6EFC-CEF6-4921-ADA6-534C83636B41","rank":"normal"}],"P1447":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1447","hash":"9b73ce50e0d7db09098ddd1ded556824307f0432","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":1649339,"id":"Q1649339"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$3744761A-0E51-4F4C-82E9-9571636065D9","rank":"normal"}],"P226":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"931d440d81bc36bd995d55315147f8320cad5b38","datavalue":{"value":"20G07","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$0ECF7DDA-0C60-4D19-9C39-3DA1BD993AE9","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"a0f74f1bfe7bc5707c851bdfd982cd61c83ba8e6","datavalue":{"value":"20G10","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$70AB5A49-0C9F-42C8-8FA0-0B27339837B2","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"2e5da4673649355244eb9246e0f14ff08374e114","datavalue":{"value":"20G15","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$F93B8D2A-E006-4A6E-8B4E-CB671E418AF4","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"975739bcf3e70dcfef1b6fbcb88cd7d5bf84c90c","datavalue":{"value":"14L10","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$CC4700EE-C561-47E9-899D-96EDE1A65954","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"ccfe079e35ccc7e216ef944124db3b57a09e1992","datavalue":{"value":"14L15","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$09325F47-A031-4475-87E2-996C154F721D","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"615e117af2f49ba5569f8a88ee769a3c402ad5cc","datavalue":{"value":"14L17","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$3EA80BBB-83FA-40D1-8381-BE7E455E1D1D","rank":"normal"}],"P1451":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1451","hash":"5a5bd091d78432b5f688126e338c4cc0e0547b85","datavalue":{"value":"8149912","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$D1E5C14E-48D6-4D57-A1BC-6E6114E9BEA7","rank":"normal"}],"P163":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P163","hash":"45fcd4163b5f33e6e8c784f5522d7246c0a1a61e","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":57056,"id":"Q57056"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q6869441$07C9075C-0FF6-4989-9237-3DA1E72CDA41","rank":"normal"}],"P1450":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1450","hash":"4b3a3afebbe6fbef7e4f322a37ac959bc9e9153f","datavalue":{"value":"linear
