The codes found are obtained from maximal curves (given the genus) and hyperelliptic curves over \\(\\mathbb{F}_q\\). Key tools in the constructions are results by \\textit{L. Sok} [Des. Codes Cryptography 89, No. 5, 823--841 (2021; Zbl 1469.94144)] and \\textit{H. Stichtenoth} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 55, No. 1-2, 199--211 (1988; Zbl 0654.94017)], respectively. These, and other tools and concepts, are presented and explained in Section 2 of the paper, after an instructive introduction. \\N\\NSection 3 is the main body of the paper. Here, the authors prove the existence of the many self-dual codes in question. We remark that whenever Lemma 2.5 (obtained from the last part of (i) of [\\textit{L. Sok}, Des.
