When invited to evaluate a newly published textbook introducing algebraic geometry, I tend to approach the task with a measure of skepticism. My doubts are heightened when the work is intended for undergraduates. Given the abundance of recent texts covering the foundations of algebraic geometry, it is increasingly difficult for a new textbook to offer genuinely novel insights or a sufficiently distinctive perspective. Upon receiving the present book, however, I hoped the authors might exceed my expectations; I am pleased to report that they have done so. This is an excellent work and an exemplary introduction to the fundamentals of algebraic geometry.\\N\\NWhat should we expect from new publications in mathematics? While the answer is inevitably subjective, one decisive factor is the presentation of the material. Attention to typographical and graphical design, along with a clear and patient exposition of key concepts, is essential for readers to follow the narrative with ease. The authors have fully met these expectations. The textbook is user-friendly: all necessary definitions and results are highlighted in well-designed boxes, and each chapter begins with a set of ``Learning Objectives'' that effectively orient the reader. This thoughtful organization is a principal strength and distinguishes the book in an increasingly crowded field.\\N\\NThe textbook provides a thorough introduction, beginning essentially from scratch. Chapter 0 focuses on polynomial rings, introducing fundamental notions clearly and supporting them with carefully selected exercises. The exposition is accessible, allowing readers with minimal background to engage effectively.\\N\\NThe subsequent chapters constitute the main body of the text, focusing on affine algebraic geometry. They cover essential topics such as irreducibility, morphisms between varieties, the Nullstellensatz, dimension theory, tangent spaces, and products of varieties. Each topic is illustrated with instructive examples, facilitating a clear understanding of the theoretical concepts.\\N\\NThe final part addresses projective algebraic geometry. The authors systematically present key aspects of the theory, beginning with projective space, projective varieties, and the projective Nullstellensatz. They proceed to regular maps between projective varieties, Veronese maps, products and Segre maps, Grassmannians, quasi-projective varieties, regular functions, the dimension of quasi-projective varieties, blow-ups, fibers, and classical results on lines on surfaces. Throughout, the exposition maintains a careful balance between rigor and clarity, rendering the material both accessible and comprehensive.\\N\\NI am highly impressed by the organization of the book and I believe that it will serve as my primary reference for undergraduate courses in algebraic geometry. Although the textbook does not cover schemes or sheaves, it provides all necessary prerequisites, equipping the reader to pursue more advanced topics, as exemplary suggested at the end of the book.\\N\\NIn summary, this is an excellent textbook of significant value, and I strongly recommend it as a primary reference for introductory studies in algebraic geometry.","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$903166BA-FF89-4124-AFF6-2EABA17A9D25","rank":"normal"}],"P1447":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1447","hash":"676be0f283a877c4ebd59f7cc4517b544fd46411","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":407393,"id":"Q407393"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$C4193E3D-E36F-4CDA-B21B-BA4846B361E6","rank":"normal"}],"P226":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"213773c7eae9e796c7544b57cce9cfc776db51f6","datavalue":{"value":"14-01","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$1556F0D3-8069-471E-86C6-2DC9FC3C6D26","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P226","hash":"c87f7570997ea2f4f93aa8fae148720e8356d94b","datavalue":{"value":"14Axx","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$28FD26D1-CB97-42E3-818B-5C296216FA6F","rank":"normal"}],"P1451":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1451","hash":"89ad845216233ea3dd72e6704c1ea60a95bf511b","datavalue":{"value":"8014473","type":"string"},"datatype":"external-id"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$E6FF4DC9-38BE-470A-BE06-A02EE12EFC4C","rank":"normal"}],"P163":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P163","hash":"bee1ddd2bb542a0e64ca96574e4fab1bba361385","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":57074,"id":"Q57074"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$9EB83A75-17D8-4168-98E8-3B31E0555015","rank":"normal"}],"P1450":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1450","hash":"fd704a1aa88636593c88f3b04a0441e29ab22e35","datavalue":{"value":"affine algebraic geometry","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$DC411F56-97C5-49E8-8707-9737C1C10CD6","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1450","hash":"619cec4664a98d8c81850d161b273c3520446471","datavalue":{"value":"projective geometry","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$5DC20F34-FDC8-4302-92E3-4CB26D9C1BCD","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1450","hash":"0e6ab94e96dc0af40d67e25949b534aa75ef611b","datavalue":{"value":"polynomial rings","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$4B119C3A-2B14-4C06-856F-31DF76CFE245","rank":"normal"},{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1450","hash":"15543bdfe92551b2ebbd7c1f66cc07e2895a693b","datavalue":{"value":"textbooks in algebraic geometry","type":"string"},"datatype":"string"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$15B65B58-B7A7-4928-8CB9-82EC712175D5","rank":"normal"}],"P1460":[{"mainsnak":{"snaktype":"value","property":"P1460","hash":"57f7fea50d2ce1b39b695c4a1313582eed405e38","datavalue":{"value":{"entity-type":"item","numeric-id":5976449,"id":"Q5976449"},"type":"wikibase-entityid"},"datatype":"wikibase-item"},"type":"statement","id":"Q7009468$3F3EE962-DA60-4B46-8887-47C84A9C819B","rank":"normal"}]},"sitelinks":{"mardi":{"site":"mardi","title":"Beginning in algebraic geometry","badges":[],"url":"https://portal.mardi4nfdi.de/wiki/Beginning_in_algebraic_geometry"}}}}}
