The present author wants to propose an enrichment of this subject, called weighted algebraic topology. In this setting, the cost for going from a given state to another one has a value belonging to the interval \\([0,\\infty]\\). Lawvere's generalized metric spaces endowed with a possibly non-symmetric distance taking values in \\([0,\\infty]\\) are a basic setting where weighted algebraic topology can be developed. In this setting, Grandis generalizes some of his results about \\(d\\)-spaces. In particular, he obtains a Van Kampen theorem for fundamental weighted categories and also introduces the more general setting of spaces with weighted paths, which has finer quotients and strong links with noncommutative
