Statements
Let \(A\) be the generator of a uniformly bounded \(C_0\)-semigroup of Banach space operators \(e^{tA}\), \(t\geq 0\). The authors provide sufficient conditions, in terms of the resolvent \(R(A,\lambda)\), for the Cayley transform \(V= (A+ I)(A- I)^{-1}\) to be power bounded, i.e., \(\sup_{n> 0}\| V^n\|< \infty\). A very practical sufficient condition follows, namely: if the resolvent satisfies the estimate \[ \| R(A,\lambda)\|\leq C \sum^n_{k=1} {1\over |\lambda- ia_k|},\quad\text{Re\,}\lambda> 0, \] for some constant \(C> 0\) and real numbers \(a_k\), \(k= 1,\dots,n\), then the Cayley transform \(V\) is power bounded.
