On compact simply connected Riemannian symmetric spaces, which are spin, the computation of the spectrum of the Dirac operator can be done by purely algebraic methods. In this Letter, we perform such a computation for complex projective space \\(P_{2q-1}({\\mathbb{C}})\\). Although this kind of computation can, in principle, be applied to any other spin compact Riemannian symmetric space, there are technical difficulties. More precisely, one of the things which need to be done is the following. Let (V,\\(\\rho\\)) be an irreducible unitary representation of the isometry group G of the symmetric space \\(M=G/K\\). One has to be able to decompose (V,\\(\\rho\\)) in irreducible components relative to K. Physics literature is full of partial results on this reduction problem under the heading of `branching rules' [e.g. \\textit{D. P. Zelobenko}, Am. Math. Soc. Trans. 40, (1970), \\textit{B. Gruber}, J. Math. Phys. 11, 1783 (1973), \\textit{A. U. Klimyk}, Dokl. Akad. Nauk 177, 1001 (1967), and \\textit{A. U. Klimyk} and \\textit{B. Gruber}, J. Math. Phys. 23, 1399-1408 (1982; Zbl 0548.22011). Unfortunately very few situations seem to have been solved in full generality. The choice of \\(P_{2q-1}({\\mathbb{C}})\\) among the symmetric spaces was dictated by the fact that the branching rules for SU(2q) relative to S(U(2q-1)\\(\\times U(1))\\) were essentially known [\\textit{A. Barut} and \\textit{R. Raczka}, Theory of group representations and applications (1980; Zbl 0471.22021) and \\textit{H. Boerner}, Representations of groups (1963; Zbl 0112.263)] and, anyhow, could be determined directly by elementary
