A numerical method for solving interface problems arising in two-point boundary value problems (English)
The authors consider the numerical solution of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations with interface conditions and unknown points. An example is \(y''=f(x,y,y',c),\quad 0<x<1\) \(y(0)=y(1)=0,\) \(g(y'(c^-),\quad y'(c^+))=0\) whenever \(y(c)=0\) holds. The problem is decomposed into several standard local boundary value problems which are coupled at the interface points. They are solved by standard methods. From the interface conditions an additional nonlinear equation is derived. The secant method is used for solving this equation. The paper includes some numerical results for a one-dimensional scattering problem, a boundary value problem with discontinuous nonlinearities, a damped free vibration problem with constant damping force and an overdetermined boundary value problem.
