The paper begins with an interesting remark that according to [\textit{M. Belolipetsky} and \textit{V. Emery}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 105, No. 3, 541--570 (2012; Zbl 1327.22013)] the smallest volume of non-compact arithmetic hyperbolic \(n\)-orbifold for odd \(n\) has the simplest form exactly for the dimensions \(n\) for which there exists an even unimodular Lorentzian lattice \(II_{n,1}\). The main result of the paper shows that in these dimensions the minimal covolume (for the arithmetic lattices) is actually attained on the group of the special automorphisms \(SO(II_{n,1})\). The paper concludes with a discussion of the connection of the results with (a) small covolume hyperbolic Coxeter groups in dimensions \(n = 9\) and \(17\); (b) masses of even unimodular Euclidean lattices; and (c) automorphism groups of odd unimodular Lorentzian lattices.
