A group \(G\) is called LERF ( locally extended residually finite) if for any elements \(x_ 0,\dots,x_ k\in G\) with \(x_ 0\not\in \langle x_ 1,\dots,x_ k\rangle\) there is a subgroup of finite index in \(G\) containing \(x_ 1,\dots,x_ k\) but not \(x_ 0\). The author constructs a group with the properties indicated in the title. A final note states that a finitely generated example is also to be published.
