In this paper the notion of boundedness of an additive functor between small noetherian abelian categories is introduced, in order to obtain a criterion which ensures the existence of derived functors in the situations where there are not enough injectives. The main result states that boundedness implies the existence of the total right derived functor (RF). Furthermore RF can be computed in the derived category of ind-objects of the given category, where one has enough injectives.
