The existence of a simple exact solution of the Prandtl equation for a viscous boundary layer adjacent to a solid wall is proved, under some additional condition about the external flow velocity. The estimates of the first author and \textit{C. H. Lee} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 79, 291- 304 (1982; Zbl 0503.76051)] (which established an existence and uniqueness theorem for the continuation problem up to and including the separation point) are used. The obtained solution is free of singularity and exhibits reverse flow thereafter.
