The concept of the class of intertwining matrices for a polynomial f of degree \(m\leq n\) is introduced with the property that a matrix H belongs to the family of all \(n\times n\) Hankel matrices compatible with f if and only if \(HR^ T=RH\) for all R belonging to the class of intertwining matrices for f. A characterization of ''testing matrices'' is also given.
