A fuzzy topology on a Cartesian product is studied with the second factor treated as a parameter space. This leads to several notions of duality. The fuzzy dual is used to provide a unifying framework for several methods of fuzzification, including those of \textit{B. Hutton} for \({\mathbb{R}}\) [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 50, 74-79 (1975; Zbl 0297.54003)], \textit{A. J. Klein} for connected spaces [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 12, 271-279 (1984; Zbl 0549.54004)], and \textit{R. Lowen} for probability measures on the Borel sets of a separable metric space [Math. Nach. 115, 33-57 (1984; Zbl 0593.54006)]. For each L, the fuzzy real line \({\mathbb{R}}(L)\) is a fuzzy dual of \({\mathbb{R}}\) with the usual topology. Their fuzzy co-duals are statified fuzzy topologies on \({\mathbb{R}}\) which are metrizable in various senses and have many separation properties.
