    The author investigates a global attractor for the following plate problem in an unbounded domain: \[ u_{tt}+\alpha(x)u_t+\Delta^2+\lambda u + f(u)=g(x),\;(t,x)\in \mathbb R\times \mathbb R^n, \] \[ u(0,x)=u_0(x),\;u_t(0,x)=u_1(x),\quad x\in \mathbb R^n, \] where \(\lambda>0\), \(g\in L_2(\mathbb R^n)\), \(\alpha\in L_\infty(\mathbb R^n)\), \(\alpha(\cdot)\geq 0\), \(\alpha(x)\geq \alpha_0>0\) \(\forall\,| x|\geq r_0>0,\) \(f\in C^1(\mathbb R)\), \(| f'(u)|\leq c(1+| u|^p)\), \(p>0\), \((n-4)p\leq 4\), \(f(u)u\geq 0\) \(\forall\;u\in \mathbb{R}.\) After establishing the asymptotic compactness of the semigroup generated by the previous Cauchy problem the proof of point dissipativity is presented. The existence of a global attractor, its regularity and finite dimensionality are established.
