The authors study the existence of positive solutions for the one-dimensional \(p\)-Laplacian \[ [\Phi_p(\varphi')]'- \lambda \frac{|\varphi'|^p}{\varphi}+f(t)=0,\quad t \in (0,1),\tag{1} \] under either the Dirichlet boundary conditions \[ \varphi(0)=\varphi(1)=0, \tag{2} \] or the periodic boundary conditions \[ \varphi(0)=\varphi(1)=\varphi'(0)=\varphi'(1)=0. \tag{3} \] Here \(\Phi_p(s)=|s|^{p-2}s\), \(p\geq 2\), \(\lambda>0\), \(f \in C[0,1]\) and \(f(t)>0\) for every \(t\in [0,1]\). The authors prove that the boundary value problem (1)-(2) admits at least one solution when \(\lambda >0\). A similar result holds for the boundary value problem (1)-(3) when \(\lambda >(p-1)/p\). The main ingredient is the method of elliptic regularization.
