A Carnot group \(G\) has a Lie algebra which is stratified and it is equipped with an inner product related to the stratification. Contact mappings can be read off at the Lie algebra level through contact vector fields. In this work the author gives a sufficient condition for \(G\) being nonrigid. This allows the construction of an example of a nonrigid group, whose Lie algebra is not isomorphic to the Lie algebra of any jet space.
