The paper develops a strategy to establish a Wegner estimate and localization in random Schrödinger operators on \(\mathbb Z^d\) which does not rely on the usual eigenvalue variation argument. The main assumption is that the potential \(V(\omega)\) depends real analytically on \(\omega\). This allows to use a distributional property of analytic functions in many variables. An application is given to a model where \(V_n\) is a self-adjoint matrix obtained by random unitary conjugation of a fixed matrix \(A\), \(V_n = U_n A U_n^*\). The paper adapts the technology developed for quasi-periodic potentials [see \textit{J. Bourgain}, Ann. Math. Stud. 158 (2005; Zbl 1137.35001)] to the random case. The adaptation is made possible by an extension of the so-called Cartan Lemma to high dimension.
