In this paper, a new approach is used for constructing quantum codes over \(\mathbb{Z}_2\) from cyclic codes of odd length over the ring \(\mathcal{R}=\mathbb{Z}_4 + v \mathbb{Z}_4;~v^2=v\). After defining a new Gray map over \(\mathcal{R}\), which is \(\mathbb{Z}_2\)-linear and distance preserving isometry from \(\mathcal{R}^n\) to \(\mathbb{Z}^{4n}_2\), the authors study the orthogonality of linear codes with their Gray images. This allows them to provide new quantum MDS codes and quantum codes with good parameters.
