The authors investigate a nonlinear evolution equation describing the time development of a very thin vortex tube. The equation is derived from the dynamics of 3D incompressible fluid with the local induction approximation. Here differential calculus on the space of asymptotically linear curves is developed. The calculus is applied to elucidate the integrability of the nonlinear equation mentioned above.
