Let \(C_r^*(P)\) be the reduced semigroup \(C^*\)-algebra of a semigroup \(P\) [\textit{X. Li}, J. Funct. Anal. 262, No. 10, 4302--4340 (2012; Zbl 1243.22006)]. Recall that a left Ore semigroup is a cancellative semigroup such that any two non-empty left ideals have a non-empty intersection. Any left Ore semigroup \(P\) admits an embedding into a group \(G\) such that \(G=P^{-1}P\). The main result of the paper is the computation, under certain conditions, of the \(K\)-groups of \(C^*_r(P)\) in terms of the \(K\)-groups of the reduced group \(C^*\)-algebras of certain subgroups of the enveloping group \(G\) of \(P\). This result is used to study \(C^*_r(R\rtimes R^+)\) for the ring of integers \(R\) in a number field.
