This paper attempts to estimate the error bounds of a nonlinear boundary value problem by combining the mathematical programming approach with genetic algorithms -- a class of probabilistic search algorithms for optimization problems. It shows that the method of weighted residuals is improved by the proposed methodology. The efficiency of this approach for a nonlinear boundary value problem is illustrated.
