A hypersurface is biconservative if it possesses a divergencefree stress bienergy tensor; it can be characterized as having a vanishing tangential component of the bitension field. Beyond the motivation from biharmonic map theory, another lies in the fact that in Euclidean spaces CMC hypersurfaces are biconservative. In this paper the authors construct an infinite family of proper \(\mathrm {SO}(p+1)\times \mathrm{SO}(q+1)\)-invariant biconservative hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^{p+q+2}\) with profile curves asymptotic to those of minimal cones. A corresponding result is also derived for complete proper \(\mathrm{SO}(p+1)\)-invariant biconservative hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^{p+2}\) with `catenary type' profiles.
