    This article is a detailed investigation of a certain mathematical model of climate and oceanic flow. The flow is described by the Navier-Stokes equations \[ \begin{aligned} &\frac{\partial v}{\partial t}-\nu\Delta v +v\cdot\nabla v +\nabla p=f,\quad \text{div}\,v=0,\quad x\in \Omega,\;t>0,\\ &v(x,0)=v_0(x),\quad x\in \Omega, \end{aligned} \] where \(v\) is the velocity of fluid, \(p\) is the pressure, \(\Omega\subset {\mathbb R}^3\) is thin domain \[ \Omega=\{(x_1,x_2,x_3):\;(x_1,x_2)\in {\mathbb T}^2,\;\varepsilon g_0(x_1,x_2)<x_3<\varepsilon g_1(x_1,x_2)\}. \] Here \({\mathbb T}^2\) is the 2D torus, \(g_0\) and \(g_1\) are given smooth functions, \(\varepsilon\) is the small positive parameter. The equations are supplemented by the Navier boundary conditions on the surfaces \(x_3=\varepsilon g_0\) and \(x_3=\varepsilon g_1\) \[ v\cdot n=0,\quad \left[\frac{1}{2}(\nabla v+(\nabla v)^t)n\right]_{\text{tan}}=0, \] where \(n\) is the unit outward normal vector and \([\cdot\,]_{\text{tan}}\) denotes the tangential part of the vector. It is shown that the strong solutions exist for all time provided the initial data \(v_0\) belongs to a certain set in the Sobolev space \(H^1\). Another result is the existence of the global attractors for both the strong solutions and weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. Useful generalizations of the classical Poincaré, Ladyshenskaya and Agmon inequalities are proved in the article.
