Let \(I\subseteq k[X_ 1,...,X_ 4]\) be the ideal of the affine cone of a curve in \({\mathbb{P}}_ 3(k)\), where k is an infinite field. Using a generalized form of the Weierstraß preparation theorem [cf. e.g. \textit{H. Grauert}, Invent. Math. 15, 171-198; (1972; Zbl 0237.32011)] the author computes a free resolution of I, which in turn is obviously determined by a finite sequence of matrices over \(k[X_ 1,...,X_ 4]\). The author completely characterizes the matrices arising in this way. With a discussion of some special cases the paper is finished.
