Algebraic cobordism is a universal generalized cohomology theory in a sense that for any oriented cohomology theory \(A^{*}\) there is a unique map \({\Omega}^{*}\rightarrow A^{*}.\) Thus it plays a similar role in algebro-geometric context as the complex cobordism in algebraic topology. The universality implies that the structure of \({\Omega}^{*}(X)\) is very rich and in fact a computation of a specific ring \({\Omega}^{*}(X)\) is very difficult. On the other hand \({\Omega}^{*}(X)\) is a module in a natural way over the Lazard ring \({\mathbb L}.\) In the current paper, the author investigates this structure. He shows that the relations in this module are concentrated in positive dimensions. This leads, by combining his result with that of \textit{M. Levine} and \textit{F. Morel} [Algebraic cobordism. Berlin: Springer (2007; Zbl 1188.14015)] concerning the non-negativity of the generators of \({\Omega}^{*}(X),\) to the exact sequence \[ M_{1}\rightarrow M_{0}\rightarrow {\Omega}^{*}(X), \] where \(M_{0}\) and \(M_{1}\) are free \({\mathbb L}\)-modules with generators concentrated in non-negative and positive dimensions respectively. In the proofs the author uses symmetric operations [\textit{A.Vishik}, ``Symmetric operations for all primes and Steenrod operations'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1309.5644}]. As an application the algebraic cobordism of a curve is computed.
