Using the Sturm comparison theorem for solutions of second order differential equations in its extended form [\textit{A. Deaño, A. Gil} and \textit{J. Segura}, J. Approximation Theory 131, No. 2, 208--230 (2004; Zbl 1065.33004), the authors study convexity of and the distance between the zeros of some classical orthogonal polynomials. Their main results are Laguerre: results on convexity and on the distance between consecutive zeros (upper/lower bounds), Jacobi: results on convexity, Ultraspherical: results on convexity and on the distance between consecutive zeros (upper/lower bounds).
