The authors introduce \(L\)-functions associated to an abelian covering of algebraic curves with singularities. Their construction is based on Stöhr's interpretation of the characteristic polynomial of the Cartier operator (acting on the quotient of regular differentials) as a singular part of the zeta-function [\textit{K.-O. Stöhr}, Bol. Soc. Bras. Mat., Nova Sér. 24, 105--236 (1993; Zbl 0788.14020)]. The main result (theorem 4) is the compatibility with the zeta function of a singular curve.
