Consider the differential equation \[ {d^2 u\over dt^2}+ {u\over\sqrt{1+u^2}^3}= 0\tag{\(*\)} \] describing the motion of a point charce in the electric field of a charged ring. \((*)\) has a first integral representing a family of closed orbits around the origin. Let \(\Gamma_A\) be the trajectory of \((*)\) defined by the initial condition \(u(0)= A\), \({du\over dt}(0)= 0\). The corresponding frequency is denoted by \(\omega(A)\). The authors determine approximations of \(\omega(A)\) for small and large \(A\) and compare them with the exact solution.
