The author shows that if \(X\) is a Stein manifold of dimension at least 2, if \(p\) is a point outside a closed pluripolar subset \(Y\) in \(X\) and \(v\) a vector tangent to \(X\) at \(p\), then there exists a proper holomorphic map \(f\) defined on the unit disc in \(\mathbb{C}\) whose image avoids the pluripolar set \(Y\) and such that \(f(0)=p\) and \(f'(0)=\lambda v\). As a consequence, one can show that the image of a proper holomorphic map from the unit disc into \(\mathbb{C}^{2}\) can miss three or more complex lines, thus positively solving an open problem.
