About
This page hosts notes related to tasks that assist with the operation and usability of this wiki. The page title is inspired by WikiGnome.
Site configuration
Interwiki links
Interwiki links provide a mechanism to link from pages on one wiki to pages on another wiki. For instance, wikipedia:Mathematics links to the English Wikipedia's entry on Mathematics, but similar functionality for other languages and other wikis is yet to be fully set up and documented.
MediaWiki Extensions
A list of extensions installed on this wiki is available via Special:Version. Some other extensions worth considering are listed below.
Namespaces
MediaWiki provides the option to create and configure namespaces for specific uses. We have not looked at this systematically yet.
Standard page links
Any MediaWiki instance comes with a set of standard links, e.g. in the page footer, in the sidebar and in messages displayed while editing. These links have not been fully customized for this wiki, and some not at all. Below is a list of these, likely incomplete:
- Project:About — linked from page footer. Started it with some very basic content, but this still needs brushing.
- Project:Copyrights — linked from the instructions displayed in edit mode, e.g. for this page.
- Project:Project:General disclaimer — linked from page footer
- Project:Privacy policy — linked from page footer
Content organization
Content can be organized in various ways, within and across pages. Pages are located in suitable #Namespaces and can also be grouped in various ways, e.g. by categories or forms.
Things that do not yet fit into any of the above
- IP range blocks
- Stand-alone pages like HowTo UseCase
- Page naming conventions
- Portal
- robots.txt
- nofollow
- Jupyter
