Let \(M=\left [ \begin{matrix} A&B \\ C&D\end{matrix} \right ]\) be a partitioned matrix, where \(A\) and \(D\) are square matrices. Let us denote the Drazin inverse of \(A\) by \(A^D\). An interesting problem posed by \textit{S. L. Campbell} and \textit{C. D. Meyer jun.} [Generalized inverses of linear transformations. Corrected reprint of the 1979 original. New York: Dover Publications, Inc. (1991; Zbl 0732.15003)] is to find an explicit representation for the Drazin inverse of \(M\) in terms of \(A^D\) and \(D^D\) with arbitrary blocks \(A, B, C, D\). Recently, a general formula for block triangular matrices was obtained by \textit{C. D. Meyer, jun.} and \textit{N. J. Rose} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 33, 1--7 (1977; Zbl 0355.15009)]. The authors of the present paper establish an explicit representation of the Drazin inverse of \(M\) with the blocks satisfying the conditions \(BC = 0\), \(BDC = 0\) and \(BD^2 = 0\).
