Many years ago, Popoviciu proved the following result of qualitative type: for the classical univariate Hermite-Fejér interpolation polynomials of a function \(f\) based on Jacobi-type knots, there still exist some points (independent of \(f\)) around them the where monotonicity of \(f\) is preserved. In a very recent paper by Gal and Szabados, quantitative versions of Popoviciu's results are given and the case of convexity is also considered. In the present paper, qualitative and quantitative results for bivariate Hermite-Fejér polynomials are obtained, e.g. the bivariate interpolation operators of Hermite-Fejér preserve some kinds of monotonicity and convexity of bivariate functions in the neighbourhoods of some points, and estimates of the magnitude of these neigbourhoods are given.
