The paper presents the explicit form of the trigonometric quantum R matrices corresponding to the spin representations of \(B_ n\) and \(D_ n\), in terms of the isotypic components of the space of endomorphisms. The author conjectures that the one-dimensional configuration sums of the corresponding vertex models are the string functions of the related affine Lie algebras (see [\textit{V. G. Kac} and \textit{D. H. Peterson}, Adv. Math. 53, 125-264 (1984; Zbl 0584.17007)].)
