    Die Permanente einer \(n\times n\)-Matrix \(X=(x_{i,k})\) ist durch \(\text{per}(X)=\sum\{x_{1,\pi 1}\cdots x_{n,\pi n}:\pi\in S_ n\}\) definiert. \(X\) heißt doppelt stochastisch, wenn \(X\) eine reelle Matrix mit \(x_{i,k}\geq 0\), \(\sum_ \nu x_{i,\nu}=\sum_ \nu x_{\nu,k}=1\) für alle \(i,k\) ist. Die Vermutung von van der Waerden besagt, daß \(\text{per}(X)\) auf der Menge aller stochastischen \(n\times n\)-Matrizen den minimalen Wert im Fall \(x_{i,k}={1\over n}\) für alle \(i,k\) annimmt. Abweichend von den bisher vorliegenden weitgehend algebraischen Beweisen gibt Verf. einen rein analytischen Beweis an, der an die Kuhn-Tucker- Bedingungen anknüpft und auf einer Verallgemeinerung der Klassen der invexen und der Typ I-Funktionen basiert.
