This introduction to the special memorial issue for Tosio Kato (August 25, 1917 -- October 2, 1999) is meant as a continuation of the obituary note by \textit{H. Cordes} et al. [Not. Am. Math. Soc. 47, 650--657 (2000; Zbl 1036.01507)] focussing on Kato's contributions to nonautonomous evolution equations. On pages 353--357 the list of publications is given (188 items) in reverse order.
