Let \((R, \mathfrak{m}, k)\) be a commutative noetherian local ring. Recall the following conjecture due to Auslander: \textbf{(AC)} For every finitely generated \(R\)-module \(M\) there exists an integer \(b_M\gg 0\) such that, for every finitely generated \(R\)-module \(N\), if \(\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0\) for \(i\gg 0\), then \(\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0\) for all \(i>b_M\). \textbf{(UAC)} There exists an integer \(b\gg 0\) such that, for all finitely generated \(R\)-modules \(M\) and \(N\), if \(\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0\) for \(i\gg 0\), then \(\mathrm{Ext}^i_R(M,N)=0\) for all \(i>b\). In the paper under review, the authors show that that the conditions (AC) and (UAC) need not be preserved by localization. Also they show that the number of isomorphism classes of semidualizing modules can grow under localization. In addition, they characterize the non-trivial Cohen-Macaulay fiber products of finite Cohen-Macaulay type.
