Let \((M_i,\tau_i)\) be a semifinite von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal semifinite trace, \(i= 1,2\). This paper is mostly concerned with the continuous projection-preserving linear operators \[ T: L_p(M_1,\tau_1)\to L_q(M_2,\tau_2),\quad 1\leq p, q\leq\infty \] between (non-commutative) \(L_p\)-spaces associated with these algebras. The results show that in many cases such operators are generated by Jordan \(*\)-morphisms between \(M_1\) and \(M_2\).
