The authors consider a \(T\)-periodic linear system of the form \[ x(t+1) = A(t)x(t) + B(t)u(t), \qquad y(t) = C(t)x(t), \] where \(x(t) \in \mathbb R^n\), \(u(t) \in \mathbb R\) is the input, and \(y(t) \in \mathbb R\) is the output. For such systems, the notions of relative degree and the structural zero are defined and an expression of the blocking input is derived and used to obtain a computationally advantageous characterization of structural zeros. It is shown that the number of zeros of a system with uniform relative degree is always time invariant and equal to the difference between the system order and the relative degree.
