A multistep modified Newton-Hermitian and skew-Hermitian splitting (HSS) method, in which the multistep modified Newton method is used as nonlinear solver and the HSS iteration is used to solve the multistep modified Newton equations, is introduced to solve nonlinear equations with large, sparse and positive definite Jacobian matrices. The local and semilocal convergence theorems of the method are established. The global multistep modified Newton-HSS method and basic global convergence theorem for it are also proposed. Finally, results of numerical experiments are presented.
