The paper is devoted to study some aspects of the theory of Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) equations using the bi-Hamiltonian approach to integrable systems developed by Gel'fand and Zakharevich. Under this approach the equations of KP-hierarchy appear to have the form of local conservation laws and can be reduced to an infinite dimensional system of ordinary differential equations of Riccati type. It is proved that this Riccati system can be linearized by means of Darboux coverings. Moreover, the restrictions of this linearized system to finite dimensional invariant subspaces give a new alternative construction for explicit rational solutions of KP equations.
