The aim of this paper is to construct high order numerical algorithms for solving linear weakly singular Volterra integral equations on either a uniform or a mildly graded grid. The aim is that the methods constructed should be more stable than collocation methods. The paper is structured as follows: A piecewise polynomial interpolation is proposed. One can construct a standard polynomial collocation, but following a smoothing transformation it turns out that a modified collocation becomes possible. The paper presents results on the local super-convergence of the modified collocation and finishes with some numerical examples.
