Let \(g\) be a complex semisimple finite-dimensional Lie algebra. It was shown [\textit{A. Joseph}, J. Algebra 113, 110--126 (1988; Zbl 0645.17005)] that any semiprime algebra in the category \(\mathcal O\) corresponding to \(g\) is a finite direct sum of prime algebras in \(\mathcal O\), and that any prime algebra in \(\mathcal O\) is the tensor product of its center and a simple finite-dimensional algebra. This paper is devoted to a similar question about algebras in the category \(\mathcal O\) corresponding to the quantized enveloping algebra \(U\) of \(g\) (and generalizations thereof); for short, \(\mathcal O\)-algebras. Let \(T\) be the torus of group-like elements in \(U\). An \(\mathcal O\)-algebra is \textit{primitively finite} if the subalgebra generated by the primitive elements is finite-dimensional. The main result provides the classification of \(T\)-prime, primitively finite, \(\mathcal O\)-algebras. Also, it is shown that a \(T\)-\textit{semiprime}, primitively finite \(\mathcal O\)-algebra is a finite direct sum of \(T\)-prime, primitively finite \(\mathcal O\)-algebras. The proof of the main result uses another classification result of some class of coalgebras in a category \(\mathcal O\) related to a parabolic subalgebra of \(U\). Finally, it is discussed how to adapt these results and techniques to other classes of pointed Hopf algebras and Lie algebras.
