Let G be a Lie group admitting a bi-invariant (i.e. left and right invariant) pseudo-Riemannian metric. This metric defines an isomorphism between the adjoint and coadjoint representations of G and hence the Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\) of G admits a Lie-Poisson structure. The author studies first bi-invariant metrics on simple Lie groups and then Lie groups which admit bi-invariant Lorentz metrics and finally the orbits in \({\mathfrak g}\) with respect to the adjoint representation of G viewed from the standpoint of the Lie-Poisson structure.
